The City of Weslaco, the Weslaco EDC and the Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce are preparing for the 20th Annual Mid-Valley Lighted Christmas Parade, set to be held on Thursday, December 18, at 6 p.m. on Texas Blvd. in Weslaco. Sponsors for this year’s parade include Knapp Medical Center, the Payne Auto Group, Bluewave Express Car Wash, and Magic Valley Electric Cooperative.
The theme this year is A Merry Frozen Christmas. The Grand Marshalls for this year’s parade are a trio of Rio Grande Valley boxing champions: Heavyweight Eric “Drummer Boy” Molina, Welterweight Robert “La Amenaza” Garcia, Lightweight Omar “Panterita” Figueroa, and American Ninja Warrior Finalist Abel Gonzalez. The Mid-Valley Lighted Christmas Parade features decorated floats, marching bands, classic cars, and more, all decked out in lights and holiday décor.
Immediately following the parade, the City of Weslaco and the Weslaco EDC invite all to Alfresco Weslaco Music & Art on the Street in the Weslaco City Hall parking lot which will feature a free ice skating rink for kids and adults, live music by Mariachi Juvenil Nueva Tradicion & the New Variety Band, arts & crafts vendors, food vendors, a fine art tent, and a classic car display.
Application entries for the parade are available online on websites for the City of Weslaco, the Weslaco EDC, and the Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce. You can also download the applications from the respective Facebook pages. The applications will also be available at City Hall and the Business Visitor & Event Center.
