Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, in collaboration with the Texas Medical Association (TMA), will host the 2nd Annual Super Safety Pediatric Fair on Saturday, October 3, 2015. A morning of safe, fun activities will be held from 8:30 AM until 12:00 PM at the DHR Bariatric and Metabolic Institute; the Super Safety Pediatric Fair will feature a Bike Safety Rodeo, flu shots at a reduced price, wellness information, child car seat inspections, plus fun games and prizes for the whole family! This year a Color Fun Run and Walk will also take place, starting at 8:30 AM. The Super Safety Pediatric Fair is open to the public and free of charge. The first 100 participants will receive free bike safety helmets!

Exercise for 2 Great Causes!
We are also raising funds for the Texas Oncology Foundation and Easter Seals RGV. Last year, we raised almost $700 which was evenly split through both non-profits! Help us double that and give back to the community in our own backyard!

1000 volunteers are needed to plant20,000 seedlings of 32 species of plants at the Ranchito Tract of the Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife refuge. Please bring your own shovel, work clothes, gloves and sunscreen. Food and refreshments will be provided. Volunteers will plant tree and shrub seedlings on 25 acres of refuge land. This will restore valuable wildlife habitat.

Join us for our Annual Rio Grande Delta International Archaeology Fair. The fair will provide the community an opportunity to learn about archaeology, local archaeological resources, and the value of resource preservation. There will be exhibits by professional and avocational archaeologist, as well as local museums from both sides of the border. Come see displays on local archaeological investigations and demonstrations of period technological advances. The fair will offer educational games and activities for visitors of all ages. There is no admission and the event is open to the public.

With hunting and fishing season in full gear, there are many hidden dangers that come along with these sports. Snake and spider bites, poison ivy, gunshot wounds, heat related illness, drowning, and other emergent issues can arise when out in the South Texas brush country. On Saturday, October 24, 2015, Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, along with Dr. Kip Owen, will host the 2nd annual Brush Country Medicine and Survivals Conference to educate and enlighten the medical community, first responders, and the general public about these potential hazards.
The Brush Country Medicine and Survival Conference will be held at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance from 8:00 AM-12:00 PM, with registration starting at 7:30 AM. The conference will feature speakers with expertise in the subject matter. Speakers include world-renowned physicians, Border Patrol agents, Texas Wildlife Commission officers, and military-trained security personnel.

Screening of Documentary: Lost Souls of La Borde House
(Rio Grande City, October 6, 2015) As part of its annual October commemoration of lost souls and all things supernatural La Borde House will host a free screening of Alejandro Dominguez’s (The Dead Explorer) documentary Lost Souls of La Borde House.
The Dead Explorer and crew documented and investigated La Borde House, one of the most haunted places in Texas! The film will show that with each moment the intensity rises as investigators are physically contacted by unseen forces, culminating with the voice of a ghost girl being caught on tape.
That evening the SCHF, an advocate for promoting the arts in Starr County, will also screen the winners of its Short Film Competition, which focused on capturing historical sites in Starr County.

Alejandro Dominguez is a well-known and experienced paranormal investigator who travels to the most haunted places in the United States in search of answers of the unexplained. He hosts and directs “Dead Explorer” one of the premier paranormal web series. His personality and passion for his work has garnered the shows over 25,000 subscribers.
After the screenings there will be music by Jay Muniz and sampling of local food, specialty drinks and coffees provided Rio Brewing Co., Pollo Palenque in RGC and Che’s Mexican Cuisine.
