SIMON COWELL has a “brilliant” idea:  He could bring KATY PERRY and JOHN MAYER to “X Factor” to replace departing judges BRITNEY SPEARS and L.A. REID.  This is just an IDEA at this point . . . and a rumored one at that.

–Of course, Katy and John have reportedly been dating, on and off, for about six months now . . . although it’s unclear what their status is right now.

–Word has it Simon is treating this like a package deal . . . and has a $20 MILLION offer on the table for them both to come onboard.  (–That seems a little soft.  Britney reportedly cost him at least $15 million alone last season.)

–A so-called “source” says “Simon sees it as a ‘brilliant’ pairing.  Katy is sassy, honest and a huge star, while John’s more reserved.  Having them as rivals would be genius . . . if they had on-air bust-ups, it’d be un-missable.”
