    “The baby, in order to imitate you, has to figure out how to shape their lips to make that particular sound they’re hearing,” said study author David Lewkowicz. “It’s an incredibly complex process.”

    When babies are four months old, they tend to only look in their parents’ eyes.

    When they’re six months old, they spend equal amounts of time looking at the eyes and the mouth.

    But at eight months the babies are studying mostly the mouth.
